“Many of the things you see on TV are not filmed by that company. They are filmed by smaller organizations and bought by the big ones. MTV Cribs is like that too I think…”

-Charles Ackerman, recent Rowan University TV & Film Grad

(The second quote by him on my blog.)

“The best editors make the best film directors.”
– Charles “Chack” Ackerman, a Rowan Alumni who graduated in May

I love this quote. He said this to me one day last spring. I think it’s true because editors know what shots work best together, if two shots need a cutaway shot in between them for the scene to flow well or not and what footage is usable and what isn’t. Since editors know all this just looking at a shot in post-production, they also have a good eye at noticing all these factors during production. When good editors take the role of director, they have the potential to create a very well thought out, smooth flowing film, usually with great continuity as well.

A little lesson about Hollywood:

-The Hollywood sign originally read “Hollywoodland” until “land” was taken down in 1949.

-If you’re going to Hollywood, the sign won’t help you find it because it doesn’t really exist.

-“Hollywood is a state of mind, not a geographical entity. You can visit it in the movies, and make it part of the soap opera of your own life. But as anyone who has walked down Hollywood Boulevard after dark will tell you, you wouldn’t want to live there.”

-Hollywood is a place found within movies in which “dreams come true, time after time after time.”

-We have all grown up with Hollywood as an important but usually unconsidered part of our lives; we could all trace it’s influence on us.”

* “Go to a motion picture…and let yourself go. Before you know it you are living the story-laughing, loving, hating, struggling, winning! All the adventure, all the romance, all the excitement you lack in your daily life are in- Pictures. They take you completely out of yourself into a wonderful new world…Out of the cage of everyday existence! If only for an afternoon or an evening- Escape!” – a 1925 Paramount advertisement

I found the true origin of the quote I presented in my last blog post! After clicking the wrong link in my favorites bin, I came across a One Tree Hill site I had bookmarked and on the top of the page, the same words in a different format, the quote I had first read on Facebook was now appearing on my screen once again. Therefore, if this fan site holds true, I must thank the writers of the One Tree Hill television series for sending those words to us, right out of Chad Michael Murray’s mouth.

Inspiring words

“There are moments in our lives when we find ourselves at a crossroad, afraid, confused, without a road map. The choices we make in those moments can define the rest of our days.

Of course when faced with the unknown, most of us prefer to turn around and go back.

But once in a while, people push on to something better, something found just beyond the pain of going it alone, and just beyond the bravery and courage it takes to let someone in, or give someone a second chance, something beyond the quiet persistence of a dream because it’s only when you’re tested, that you discover who you are, that you discover who you can be.

The person you can be does exist, beyond the hard work, faith, belief, and beyond the heartache, and fear of what lies ahead.”

This is a beautiful quote I came across while on facebook one day…an acquaintance of mine was feeling blue and he received this quote from a friend to comfort him. I’m now passing it on to you.

Don’t allow fear to stop you from pursuing your dreams.
